A glimpse of Yuchai ship electrics franchiser, Hunan Shanli
Yuchai Generator’s Market Growth in Hunan
A few years ago, Yuchai generator had a market share of less than 10%. Now, its business in the Hunan generator market has surpassed half, making Yuchai one of the most significant brands. Besides its superior product quality, Yuchai’s growth is also due to the efforts of Hunan Shanli Electromechanical Company (Hunan Shanli).
Reasons Behind Yuchai’s Popularity
When discussing Yuchai’s success in ship electrics, Pu Shexing, vice general manager of Hunan Shanli, explained, “Compared to high-end brands, Yuchai has a price advantage. Compared to general brands, it performs better in oil consumption and emissions. The remaining market consists of low-end products, which account for about 70%. However, as the market develops, this segment is gradually shrinking.”
Hunan Shanli was founded in 2008, with ship electrics sales of about 100 units. After years of growth, sales exceeded 1,000 units. In 2014, the company set a sales target of 1,200 ship electric units.
Current Market Performance
“This year, the market is optimistic. We completed our sales target for the first three quarters. Delivery engine sales exceeded 500 sets, and single production units surpassed 700 sets,” Pu Shexing said proudly.
One major client, Hunan Taohuajiang Yacht Manufacture Company, is impressed by Yuchai’s engines. Director Zhang Youjun stated that Yuchai yacht engines are professional, efficient, stable, fuel-efficient, and environmentally friendly, making them highly trusted by users.
Hunan Shanli’s Market Expansion
Hunan Shanli focuses on company and generator assembly with Yuchai engines. The general manager estimates that generator sales have increased by 70% over the past year. Apart from Yuchai’s quality and variety, the rise is also attributed to Hunan Shanli’s active market operations.
Luo Zhigao links the success to strong relationships with generator set dealers in Hunan. Looking ahead, Hunan Shanli has greater ambitions. The company aims to strengthen its presence in the Hunan generator market, leveraging the Yuchai brand.
Commitment to the Yuchai Brand
Pu Shexing emphasized, “Our achievements result from our commitment to the Yuchai brand.”
Hunan Shanli actively expands the market. It adopts area management and a secondary agent model to boost sales. In Changsha’s outskirts, representatives directly seek orders, while in remote areas, secondary agents handle sales.
Currently, Hunan Shanli has over ten secondary agents, contributing 60% of single-generator engine sales. This sales network is crucial. Pu Shexing estimates that Hunan’s single-generator engine sales will reach 900–1,000 sets this year.
Ensuring Timely Supply
Products can wait for customers, but customers cannot wait for products. This highlights Hunan Shanli’s ability to deliver on time. Market demand changes quickly, and missing an opportunity can be costly. Hunan Shanli avoids this risk by maintaining sufficient inventory.
Luo Zhigao explained that the company has external warehouses and a storage facility covering over 1,000 square meters. Large inventory increases financial pressure. “It ensures supply for secondary agents and gives customers confidence,” said Luo Zhigao.
Service as a Competitive Edge
Service is another key factor. According to Pu Shexing, Hunan Shanli provides food, accommodation, and double insurance for service teams while offering competitive salaries. As a result, their enthusiasm is high, and service quality is excellent.
Previously, sales drove service, but now, service drives sales. Chen Lijun, president of Hunan Shanli, shared a story: He once needed a taxi to the airport but couldn’t find one. Just then, he saw a Yuchai service vehicle and stopped it. The driver, Xiaoyang, was a service crew member. Though Chen considered asking for a ride, he found that Xiaoyang was in a hurry to assist a client. Chen let him go and reminded him to drive safely.
Enhancing Brand Awareness
To strengthen the Yuchai brand, Hunan Shanli invests in marketing. Besides traditional advertising and seminars, the company has launched a blog platform to promote its services. Manager Zhou introduced their new client application, which aims to deliver service information efficiently.
Active service shifts from “customers requesting service” to “proactively serving customers.” This approach, shaped by years of experience, should be a standard for Yuchai if it seeks to expand its ship electric business further.
